XML Articles and Links

Welcome to the first edition of SQLPASS Midwest Regional Group website's CDH [Consolidated Database Headline] news section. We appreciate the readers & participants to share what you thought as a DBA we could and should do to secure database systems in the organization.

As SQL-SLAMMER slammed Microsoft SQL Server community, Microsoft’s initial captivated measure from last July security hot-fix looked vulnerable itself. Although some of us could choose to ignore security hot fixes as they're released before; now you can bet perhaps the world of Internet security will take a different priority in Database Admins’ world.  As per blame game and user friendliness of Microsoft we really need to thank those developers who worked the Slammer weekend to put together Hot-FIX streamline install. As Brian Moran’s apology article and some of our confusion about not having a MSDE fix for this Slammer fades away, definitely last month will be remembered as a 9-11attack in SQL server history book.

Finally Our production web-site is launched. We still have some finishing touch to get done with. At this time we are still recruiting for our contributing editorial sections. If any of you are interested please feel free to send a request to any of our management members. Their contact information could be found in http://www.sqlpass-mrg.org in the about us section.
If you are someone who see yourself to be in the DBA market anytime soon please feel free to apply for a membership also. Our this months full members meeting was a huge hit for membership drive.
Have a great month everyone.

Until next time, see you on Net

Finding the index that enforces a primary key constraint

By Donald K. Burleson - One of the most confounding issues with Oracle is the underlying indexes that are used to enforce a unique constraint. In Oracle9i, the index can be dropped and managed separately from the constraint, but we still need a script to quickly locate the index that used by the unique constraint... [more]
